Passender 34-Kasukuwere will not land, as High Court nullifies presidential bid
Harare-AS the presidential race intensifies in Zimbabwe’s upcoming polls, the High Court has nullified the candidature of Robert Mugabe loyalist Saviour Kasukuwere.
Kasukuwere, whose nomination sailed through on June 21, faced his first challenge in his quest to run for presidency when a Zanu PF youth league member, Loveday Mangwana challenged his bid.
According to Mangwana, Kasukuwere’s candidacy was flawed as he was not resident in the country for 18 consecutive months as provided by the constitution.
Kasukuwere has been domiciled in South Africa, since the coup that toppled Robert Mugabe.
A High Court Judge ordered that the decision of the nomination court was a violation of section 91 anf that the decision is in violation of the applicant’s rights.
This means Kasukuwere not a candidate for 2023 presidential election, he ruled.
“We note the current developments regarding the Candidature of Hon_Kasukuwere from the Regime. We are not surprised, not shaken! This is just the beginning. An official statement will be issued shortly. Fasten your seatbelt. Victory is Certain. Hasta la victoria siempre,” Kasukuwere’s publicist, Ali Naka wrote on Twitter.
The High Court decision leaves 10 candidates in the race to become president, with President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa as the frontrunners.
