Zimbabwe continues to lose critical labor after skilled visas to UK shot up 424% since 2020, UK government data has shown.
Despite having a relatively smaller population, Zimbabwe is in the top five of skilled work visas to the UK.
During the year ending March 2020, 1 059 Zimbabweans were granted skilled work visas by the UK government while over 8000 Zimbabweans were offered visas between 2020 and 2022 as the UK battles skills shortages after Brexit.
The number rose to 1 735 during the year ending March 2021 and rose sharply to 5 549 during the year ending March 2022.
This comes as health unions say more than 4000 health professionals have quit in the last three years due to poor pay.
Experts say this spells doom for the struggling health sector which is already understaffed.
Topping the skilled visas to the UK is India and Nigeria.
